Louisiana Bar Foundation Jock Scott Community Partnership Panel Grant Awarded to Habitat

The Louisiana Bar Foundation Jock Scott Community Partnership Panel Grant awarded $3k to Habitat to help local victims of domestic violence escape homelessness and end the cycle of abuse. The Louisiana Bar Foundation exists to preserve, honor and improve our system of justice by funding efforts which enhance equal justice under the law.

Through this grant, the Louisiana Bar Foundation is ensuring that justice is served for a Rapides parish family by providing resources needed to acquire critical building materials. While some victims of domestic violence seek assistance from law enforcement and the legal system, some victims never receive the aide or representation that they so desperately need—do not survive to seek justice in a courtroom. One of the primary reasons why domestic violence results in homelessness and, often times, mortality is that the victims have nowhere to go.

Thanks to the Louisiana Bar Association and Jock Scott’s vision of justice for our community, one family will finally have a safe home to live in. Construction is currently underway on this family’s home. Local attorneys, Stacy Auzenne and Maria Losavio, were very pleased to learn that Habitat was awarded this grant [named for their late colleague]. Mr. Auzenne officially presented the grant to Habitat at the recent Louisiana Bar Foundation banquet.
